The release is a 2LP and was pressed on both the fungus splatter shown here and on black vinyl. It's a very good soundtrack and it works both in the game and as a casual listen outside of it. While Santaolalla's acoustic guitar might be the most memorable here there's something to be said for the shorter sections in between, that does an excellent job at creating tension and atmosphere (take "Vanishing Grace" and "I Know What You Are" for instance). The score also uses variants of the same melodies throughout the game (mostly "The Last Of Us" and "All Gone") to set the mood for what comes next. But there's also a sense of hope, which is clear in the now very familiar tunes of the titular "The Last Of Us". There's little to rejoice about in the world of The Last Of Us and it does reflect well in the score right from the get-go in "The Quarantine Zone (20 Years Later)". It features Santaolalla's characteristic acoustic guitar sound, but a dark and melancholic version of it, which does fit the theme of the game well.

The release itself is comes on 3 black vinyl LPs housed in a triple gatefold jacket with original illustrations by It's a very good pressing too and is worth picking up. And these are great, the games are from different time periods and from different composers, but the arrangements and performances allow the great compositions to stand out yet the overall album still feels like a cohesive work (maybe except for the FFX bonus track, which was taken from the Final Symphony recording, which feels a little forced). The opening fanfare is an original composition and starts things out well before it blasts out into the main deal - the arrangements. In 2016 Laced picked up the 2012 recording for a CD reissue as well as its first vinyl release.
